Idea Book *

The task at hand: visualize and draw out my ideas to specific prompts given by the professor.

Family’s Immigration Story or Cultural Heritage

I decided to draw the iconic Heinz 57 ketchup bottle. One is referred to as a “Heinz 57” when they have various origins of ancestry. My family has roots in Germany, Norway, England, and many more. For this reason, whenever I am asked about my family’s story or heritage I explain I am a “Heinz 57.”

Turtle Story

The vague prompt of “Turtle Story” with little explanation troubled me at first. However, my brain has a very vivid memory of observing a turtle as I was scuba diving in Maui, Hawaii back in 2017 with my family.

Hometown Water

My hometown is Danville, CA, around 45 minutes inland from San Francisco. When given the prompt hometown water, I immediately thought of my freezer at home, where I always fill my water bottle or cup. On my family's freezer are drawings from my one-year-old nephew, Kyler, who loves to give his grandparents and aunts beautiful art.

Social Media Presence

I am extremely active on various social media platforms. Here I drew an accurate representation of what my Instagram and VSCO accounts looked like at the time of the project. Moreover, I gave insight into what my most and least used social media apps are. In the future, I hope to have a career with a connection to social media as I enjoy it and think I have great skills in making aesthetic social media content.

“Don’t Touch My Hair”

My poor balding father is always fending off my sister and me from trying to touch his head. I have heard the term “Bailey! Don’t touch my hair!” many a time before and, “Stop! I’m going to need to brush my hair now.” I always giggle at the lack of hair that I was attempting to touch and that he would not need to brush.

Favorite Bench

Rhododendron Garden within Hendrick's Park in Eugene, Oregon, has been one of my favorite places to go while attending The University of Oregon. Whether it is hanging out with friends, reading a book, listening to music, or searching for inspiration, this bench in the Rhododendron Garden is a great spot to sit. While I spend most of my year in Eugene, Oregon, a favorite place to get away from everything is always beneficial. For me, this place is this bench in Hendricks Park.

Climate Solutions

When cued with climate solutions, I originally thought of two separate ideas. When I couldn’t pick one or the other, I decided to do both with a split-screen effect. I made sure the “bad” or polluting side lacked color except for a bold “X” to emphasize the gloominess hurting the environment brings. However, on the bottom half, I made sure to bring in color, flowers, wind turbines producing wind energy and a bike which is always a great alternative to a non-electric car. These were the first ideas that came to my head when prompted with climate solutions.
